Two Great Reds. Two Very Different Garlics.

If you’re still deciding what to plant this fall, here are two varieties worth making room for: Inchelium Red and Romanian Red.
Both are great growers, but they bring something a little different to the garden and the kitchen.
Â
Inchelium Red

Mild, productive, and a great keeper.
Inchelium Red is an Artichoke softneck known for producing large bulbs with multiple layers of cloves. It has a mild, lingering garlic flavor that’s especially good roasted, baked, or mixed into mashed potatoes.
It’s also a great choice for growers in warmer and southern regions. Under the right storage conditions, it can keep for 8–10 months. And because it’s a softneck, you can even braid it after harvest.
Romanian Red

Big cloves, bold flavor, and plenty of bite.
If you like your garlic stronger, Romanian Red is the one.
This Porcelain hardneck has a strong, pungent flavor with a bite that sticks around. It typically produces just 4–5 large cloves per bulb, which means fewer tiny cloves to peel when it’s time to cook.
Romanian Red is also cold hardy and stores well. Just keep up with the weeds, as this variety doesn’t like much competition in the garden.
